Brief Overview
Hiring your first employee or building your team can seem like a daunting task for any entrepreneur or business manager. This course is designed to help you break down the process of building your team into manageable steps that can be customized for your needs. During this workshop, Katie Walk will walk you through the steps of conducting a job analysis and drafting a job description while executing objective and equitable recruiting and selecting techniques.

This one-hour virtual workshop will be a combination of lecture, discussion, and activity.
Three things you will accomplish in this workshop:
- Understand why an up-front job analysis is critical to selecting the right employee
- Compose a job posting that will attract qualified candidates
- Choose selection techniques that will enable you to properly and objectively evaluate candidates

- Are a hiring manager and need a refresher on any of these concepts
Trainer Bio:
Katie Walk is the Co-Program Director of the Integrated Business Management program at Chippewa Valley Technical College and instructs future human resource management professionals in the areas of HR Law, Employee Benefits, Employee Relations, Training & Development, and Risk Management. In addition, Katie is part of the Human Resources team at Pablo Group where she assists the organization in process development, recruiting & hiring, and HR project management. Katie previously worked as a Senior District Manager for over 15 years for a global workforce solutions organization where she consulted with clients all over the Chippewa Valley to set up workforce management plans including recruitment, selection, employee relations, risk management, and more.
Katie’s educational background includes a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) and a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Communication. She is currently certified as a Senior Human Resources Professional by SHRM and HRCI. Katie is also a certified Job Profiler through ACT WorkKeys. As an advocate for the HR profession, Katie has served in volunteer leadership roles for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) for over 10 years including WI SHRM State Director from 2015-2016.
